On the 4th of December Russia has State Duma (lower house) elections.
What is weird? The weird thing is that among my relatives, friends, uni mates, school mates, social network friends there is NO SINGLE person who supports Putin's Party ( ER= edinaya Rossia= united Russia) and at the same time, there is NO SINGLE person who doubts that they will win.
How is it possible? first of all easily!
Transparent elections?
Legitimate authority?
Counting votes?
None of that works.
Do people like current authority and government? They hate it! Are they scared of ER? They are.
Russia in 2011 is Russia back in the USSR. People don't talk about that, they make only hints. They talk in shadows and corridors. Does mass media reflect opinion of majority? No. Why? Because being journalist in Russia is as dangerous as being a soldier in Iraq.
The biggest shame for democracy is a murder of a journalist. In Russia it is everyday reality.
If you watch the prime-time news on the federal channel you are very likely to be shocked by so flashing propaganda. The first several blocks are entirely dedicated to president and prime minister (I don't bother myself with capital letters for those occasions). President visited a city, everybody is happy. This city is the very happy one, all people are reach, love government and live in peace and happiness. Prime minister had a round-table with journalists and bloggers. Bloggers support authority and are happy with all recent changes. And so on. Only that. If there is a disaster , it will be covered in past tense. "Yesterday, in Perm there was a fire in the night club. 170 people died. Prime minister promised to make an investigation" and that's it.
People have no illusion of power or decision, they don't try to do something with that , because it is impossible. How far will it go until this bomb explodes?
